We walked at the beach in the rain and the wind. Only lone dog walkers and a rare group of city-dwellers in search of a coastal 'away-day' accompanied us. Up and down the boardwalk that wove its way through the sand dunes and then back to our beach hut for refreshments. As we peeked out of our little wooden hut, smiling to passers-by with that conspiratorial smile and a 'hello, a fine day isn't it?' even though its blowing a hooley. I did think to myself how utterly British we were being, skulking at the beach in chilly winter weather, determined to get some all-important fresh air.
To me one of my happiest places on earth is at the beach, whatever the weather, seeing my kids run along the shoreline. There is just nowhere like it for me. Of course it would be rather nice if it were Florida instead of the South coast of England, but nevertheless...it has its charms.
Fantastic beach photo! Even if the weather's rough, it blows the cobwebs away, I guess - then you can retreat to the beach hut for hot chocolate, etc! Your first pic is beautiful too - like a spread from Country Living! Enjoy the rest of 1/2 term. Abby x
ReplyDeletelovely pictures.Different but both very charming!
ReplyDeleteI love the beach too, I enjoyed Brighton when I was living in England. Have a nice day! Best regards from Barcelona,
ReplyDeleteMarta
Yes, the beach is the place to be - would love to play out there right now! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThe beach and the white sails against the blue of water and the sky - one of my favourite views as well.
ReplyDeleteOne of the things that I loved when I lived in the UK was that wonderful approach everyone had about doing stuff no matter what the weather. It's a great way to be :)
ReplyDeleteI smiled at this post, as I walked the dog on the beach this past Sunday and it was freezing. So much so, I had tears running from my eyes and feared they would freeze. So to escape the wind I clambered over the snow covered sand dunes and had to walk backwards against the wind... When the hubby asked how the walk was, I replied 'Bracing'.. I guess that is terribly British of me... Lx
ReplyDeleteSo very brave Lou as it sounds mighty cold in your neck of the woods - lovely to get that fresh air though - I will occasionally take a trip to the beach in winter - best time to get pictures of the kids on the beach as there is not to many others around! Leanne xx
ReplyDeleteI totally agree :) I love the beach whatever the weather, there's something so calming and therapeutic about it....one of these days, I am going to jump on a train and get you to meet me at the other end. Then we're heading to that beach hut of yours LOL! I really envy you being so near to the sea xx
ReplyDeleteLovely photos!
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more...the beach is my favourite place. I live right by the ocean , I can see it from my home. I walk it all the time...thank goodness I'm on the south coast of Canada not the buried under snow freeszing part!!
Pamela :)
Your blog is lovely...and the beach makes me soooo happy too. Can't wait to get my feet on some sand! xoxoxo
ReplyDeleteBeautifully put! Your writing is so descriptive, Lou. I imagined I too was taking in the fresh air!

I love the beach too. I agree though that a warm beach is quite nice but I also love sitting on the rocks in acadia national park bundled up in sweats just hearing the ocean.
ReplyDeleteFantastic!!! If I had a beach hut I'd sure be doing exactly the same thing!
ReplyDeleteit definitely does doesnt it! growing up in australia means being pretty spoilt for beautiful beaches but when i came to the UK and went to brighton i still loved it just as much! running along with your feet in the ocean, its unbeatable. your weekend at the beach sounds lovely Lou :) xx
ReplyDeleteI agree with you...no matter the weather, there is no place I'd rather be than the beach. And if you ever do come to florida...I'll show you some fantastic beaches! (Went swimming for the first time this year on Saturday...it was 83 degrees here!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little excursion. I too love the beach - be it a frozen over Swedish one or a sun drenched Australian one.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs from a gloomy Sydney.
xx Charlotta
P.S. Am taking a blog break in order to focus on life for a little while. Will miss popping in to say 'hi' but will be back towards mid March. Take care. xx
I agree - it might be nicer w/warmer weather, but there is something calming about the ocean. Perhaps because it is so much larger it puts us in our place and provides perspective. And then there's always the lovely air...
ReplyDeletexo,
Carrie
I agree. The beach is where I am happiest as well.

Dear Lou, you're so lucky to live near the beach. I would love a place with a sea view one day. Hope you're having a good week. I am good for nothing after going out for three nights in a row. I'm having a welcome night in in front of the TV xx
