Bikini bottom...

Last week's glimpse of proper, hot summer sun had a profound effect and I promptly got online and ordered a bikini. As our annual summer holiday basically consists of living in a bikini, I do own a few. I have tried numerous types but always go back to a classic version. Comfort is key. The best I have had is from Jack Wills; unexpected I know, as this brand is mainly geared for 18 year old well-to-do British students in high brow University cities, with money to burn. Anyway, they do great swimwear that lasts and lasts. So, order I did. In a bright floral sprig, just ready for tanned skin and summer loveliness.

Said bikini arrived, I whisked it on and noted that the bottom seemed slightly...how can I say? Skimpy. Has my bottom grown? I already have a bikini of this size and style and it fits like a dream; where have I gone wrong? My friend P is eminently sensible and very good at judging the 'mutton dressed as lamb' phenomenon that can afflict women of our age. We discuss the bikini bottom coverage, she maintains that support is needed in the bottom area, much like a bra. I am not so sure. Do I want to spend three weeks of my holiday with my bottom trussed up? I think not. Plan B is to run ALOT between now and then in an attempt to achieve the coveted bikini-bottom bottom. My ridiculously (and charmingly) motivated sister in law has been doing thrice-weekly spinning classes to reach this goal.

There is only one thing for it...where are my trainers? The countdown to summer sun is on. Mwah!

  1. It's funny you mention the mutton dressed as lamb thing. I find I am worrying about it more and more. And sad to say I'm more inclined to think about the beach coverup these days than the bikini! A sign of my times!

  2. Great post Lou, it made me smile!!

I don't mind admitting that it's been a while since I wore a bikini - as in a few years. I now stick to really great one pieces altho finding something fabulous in a one piece can be a challenge every year - sometimes a tankini will do tho, I have a great one of those.

I agree that support in the bottom area is important as is comfort......I am sure you can do it tho and know you will look amazing!! I have even calculated the days til we go away and will be running my sock off til then.....and if I thought I could survive a spinning class, I might even try that! I have vowed to be beach-ready and look better than ever this year :)

    Good luck Gorgeous :) xoxo

PS Any chance you can fix it for me to look like the girl in that last pic please.....cute bikini, great tan, toned limbs, perfect beach hair.....need I go on ;)

  4. I would remember when you get to your destination you will always look better than you thought you would.. you are probably comparing yourself to the very young model in the photos :)
I on the other hand .. do not take the sun anymore.. so I spray it on, and if I ever go away I come back paler than I went.. when will they provide St tropes booths in hotels, for us paler skinned people xx

  6. Go Lou Lou! I want the bikini in the last picture. As well as running eat salmon as it actually contains elements that naturally have been linked to helping skin stay firm. Not sure how much the overwhelming number of firming creams on the market do?

  7. I always run to Madonna. Grab her greatest hits and I'm sure you'll have a fab bikini bum in no time.

  8. I just LOVE tanned skin. I am scared to not wear SPF these days, so my tan never reaches its full potential, but I love looking at tanned skin. Great post as usual!

  9. I love floral bikinis! Good luck with the fitting issue... I sometimes have different sizes for bikini tops and bottoms. Maybe you should try a different size..

  10. Ooo, it's actually been a couple of years since I have worn a bikini. Now I am a mother I seem to have adopted the mummy uniform of a black one-piece swimsuit! Will have to see what I am brave enough to wear the next time I go on a proper beach holiday abroad!

  12. It's my dream to go to sleep and wake up looking like the girl above...yep, bathing suit, dear Lord, no, not for me this year I'm afraid!

I wouldn't even dare try one on as I fear I might shock myself into heart failure!

Enjoy yours...and don't fret the small stuff (pun intended)! :) xoxo Beth

  14. Julie and Simone - you both had the same thought - whether that first photo was of me. Afraid not - although I guess my hair is that colour...there is a slight resemblance!
